18th February 2012

AGM

Held in the Village Hall on Friday 18th February 2012 at 7.30 p.m.

Sandra Mercer (Chairman) opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and apologies were received from Society Patron, Mr. Robert Robinson and Mrs. Mary Wardale. The minutes of the AGM held on 18th February 2011 were read by Anne White. These were AGREED and signed by Sandra Mercer. There were no matters arising.

SECRETARY’S REPORT.

Anne White advised it had been a successful year, where meetings had been well attended. Thanks were given to Roy Mercer as Programme Secretary, Gillian Robinson for taking over as Treasurer, Paul Truscott for his work as Archivist and for arranging evening walks, Malcolm Groves for his work with Paul on the Society’s Calendar, which had been a sell out, and to Malcolm and Pat Maskrey for organising the day trip to Lincoln, and later to Bakewell Museum, where the museum staff had given a guided tour and yummy refreshments. Remembrance was paid to two of our committee members, Madge Randall and Betty Holmes, who had sadly passed away during the year. The committee had been busy promoting the Society at a History Fair at Alfreton; Holymoorside and Walton Parish Council’s Fun Day; the United Reformed Church’s Flower and Christmas Tree festivals, and the Holymoorside Scout’s Christmas Fayre. Bonds of friendship have been made at the Society’s meetings, and we look forward positively to the future and to respect the richness of the past.

TREASURER’S REPORT.

Full copies of the report were on the table for everyone to look at, and Gillian Robinson reported a healthy balance. The accounts had been independently audited by Asha Brandwood, for which the Society were grateful. There were no questions.

ADOPTION OF THE ACCOUNTS.

Sandra Mercer thanked Gillian for her accurate balance sheet and accounts which had been by accepted by all committee members and independently checked. She proposed the adoption of the accounts for the year ending 30th November 2011 and this was AGREED.

PROGRAMME SECRETARY’S REPORT.

Roy Mercer began by hoping everyone was enjoying the current programme which had been well attended. He gave an insight into the Society’s 39th year and the new programme would be ready for distribution in late May/early June.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT.

Sandra Mercer reviewed the varied and interesting events which had happened and of the June day trip to Chester. She advised the committee all work together and gave her thanks to each and every one for their hard work and supporting her during the year, and for the continuing support at the meetings and events. To celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee we shall have a new project to compile an anthology of residents of Holymoorside and district since the 1930s of people who are with us and those sadly passed on. More details will be given later.

ELECTION OF COMMITTEE.

Malcolm Groves (Vice Chairman) advised the following were willing to be re-elected, namely Sandra Mercer, Roy Mercer, Pat Maskrey, Roy Maskrey, Malcolm Groves, Gillian Robinson, Cyril Robinson, Margaret Richmond, Paul Truscott, Mary Wardale and Anne White. This was AGREED by all.

Sandra closed the meeting at 7.40 p.m., and welcolmed James Lewis, valuer and auctioneer, who gave those present an amusing, instructive and enlightening glimpse of the world of selling antiques and their value. James was thanked by Anne White. Pat Maskrey did the raffle, and afterwards Sandra wished everyone a safe journey home.
